Checking in and out the way you want
At HTM you also travel with OVpay: that is checking in with your debit card, credit card or mobile phone. The fare is the same as travelling on balance with your OV-chipkaart.
In this way we make traveling by public transport smarter and easier.
How does OVpay work?
Age discount on your debit card
New!
Are you 65+ or younger than 12 years old? Then you are entitled to travel with a 34% age discount on all buses, trams and metros in the Netherlands. You have always had this option with your personal OV chip card, and now also when you travel with your debit card (or credit card).
To take advantage of the age discount when traveling with your debit card, you must first register your debit card.
You can easily register via the OVpay app on your mobile phone. Open the app and add your pass, then go to Passes and choose Add age discount. Give us your name and date of birth and take a selfie. Success? Then you will immediately travel with a discount from that moment on.
- Tip: If you receive a new pass from your bank, you must add this pass again in the OVpay app to continue traveling with an age discount. HTM therefore recommends that you only register your plastic debit card or credit card for an age discount, because with a digital pass you will not immediately notice that you have received a new one and may miss out on a discount on your trips.

How much does my trip cost with OVpay
Travelling with OVpay costs the same as travelling with the OV-chipkaart at full fare.
Can I use any debit card to travel with OVpay?
Most banks are connected with OVpay, so make sure you have contactless payment on. Pre-registration is not necessary. Just make sure you have sufficient balance in your bank account or spending limit on your credit card.
Tip: Always take your card out of your wallet when checking in and out.
You can travel with OVpay with:
- A contactless debit card from ABN Amro, ASN Bank, bunq, ING, Rabobank, RegioBank and SNS.
- A contactless credit card from Mastercard or Visa (among others issued by ICS)
- A contactless debit or credit card from Maestro, V-pay, Mastercard or Visa.
- Mobile phone* to which your account is linked. So this also works with Apple Pay and Google Wallet!
* Is your wearable linked to your account? You can try travelling with this, we just cannot guarantee that it will work in all cases. This is due to the technical capabilities of our card readers.
Can several people travel with the same debit or credit card?
No, this is not possible. As with the OV-chipkaart, one pass is the ticket for one person. If you have several payment cards linked to the same bank account, each can travel with their own card.
Tip: travelling with children up to 12 years old? Then buy the HTM Kinder Dagkaart for € 1.
How will my trip be charged?
Your trips will be settled at the bank linked to your debit or credit card. You will see the cost of your travel as a single amount on your bank statement a day later.
What do I do if I forget to check in or out?
Fortunately, you can adjust this yourself! Note: this can be done from 5 days after your trip. You have a total of 60 days to adjust your check-in or check-out.
Good to know:
- Do you receive money back from us? This will be transferred to your account within 15 days.
- Do you still need to pay? The amount will be debited from your account within 15 days.
I already travel with an age discount on my OV chip card. Do I also have to register for an age discount on the debit card?
Yes, you will only travel with an age discount if you register.
Can I register for an age discount on my debit card at HTM at the service desk or via htm.nl?
No, age discount is a national service, for which you can only register via the OV pay app.
How do I download the OVpay app on my mobile?
Please search for OVpay in your phone's app store.
