OVpay (contactless)

It keeps getting smarter and easier

From now on you can also use your debit card, credit card or mobile device to check in and out with HTM. OVpay costs the same amount as travelling with your OV-chipkaart.

Attention: travelling with subscriptions or (age)discounts is not possible yet with OVpay. Please keep using your OV-chipkaart untill these functions are available with OVpay.

How does OVpay work?

Frequently asked questions

  • How much does my trip with OVpay cost?

Travelling with OVpay is the same price as travelling with OV-chipkaart full price.

  • Can I use every chip- or credit card for checking in and out?

Most Dutch banks are supported by OVpay. Please make sure contactless payment is activated. You do not need to register anywhere to use OVpay, but ensure you have enough balance in your account or credit available on your credit card.

Tip: Always take your card out of your wallet when you are checking in or out.

You can check in and out with:

    • A contactless chip card from ABN AMRO, ASN Bank, bunq, ING, Rabobank, RegioBank or SNS
    • A contactless credit card from Mastercard or Visa (e.g. published by ICS).
    • A contactless debit- or creditcard from Maestro, V PAY, Mastercard or Visa.
    • A smart phone* linked to your bank account. And it also works with Apple Pay and Google Wallet.

    * Do you own a wearable which is linked to your bank account? You can always try to use this for checking in and out. We can not guarantee this works because of the technical capabilities of our card readers.

  • Can you travel with multiple people on one contactless chip- or credit card?

No, just like the OV-chipkaart, this isn’t possible.

When you check in and out with your chip card, you travel as one person at full price. This is the same price as when you travel with the OV-chipkaart.

If you travel with several people, everyone must check in and out for themselves with their own chip card/credit card/smart phone or buy separate tickets. The different cards may all be linked to the same bank account.

If you’re travelling with children aged up to 13, separate child’s tickets are cheaper.

Tip: You can easily buy separate tickets via the HTM ticket app.

  • How is my journey paid for?

Your journey is paid for by the bank that is linked to your chip- or credit card. You will see the costs of today's journey as a single amount on your bank statement the next day.

  • I've forgotten to check in or out. What can I do?

It happens to the best of us! You can adjust missed check-ins or -outs yourself on this page. Please note: you can only do so 5 days after your trip. You have a total of 60 days to adjust any missed check-ins or -outs.

Good to know: we issue refunds within 15 days. We also debit any unpaid faires within 15 days.
